Are you leaping forward with Automation?

Automation is all around us, at home, in the car, at the shopping mall and on the street. We are using technology to make a lot of things possible in every day life and much of it actually goes unnoticed.

The food we buy is often produced via partial automation at the very least. Every goods and services we need and the businesses that produce it for us all use quite a lot of automation in the process.

Much of the automation is designed to make our lives easier. These facilities are often taken for granted such as automatic doors, escalators, street lights, traffic signals and Wifi. As time goes by we do not consider any of these as special. They are all part of the default environment we exist in.

They are an exciting thing in the first few years of introduction and adoption. Once mass application happens they become a norm, like the TV or internet streaming or booking a taxi ride using an app on your phone.

At our work environments, There are many benefits with tightly integrated and automated processes. Automation of a production line brings similar benefits just as automating a customer feedback process.

Automation yields increased accuracy and reduces user errors. When a system is configured to perform a specific task repeatedly, accuracy compared to a human is far greater. The simple reason for this is the system never gets tired or gets bored or gets distracted or needs a break.

The critical need for automation in a business context is the elimination of human error. The automated system can be a lot faster and be scaled up or down easily as required.

Having an automated system in place that produces results with greater accuracy ends up in less rework for users. It also helps them make better decisions fast and with greater confidence.

Automation typically facilitates higher throughput and productivity, as less time is taken to complete certain stages of a business process.

For example, automating the routing of invoice approvals based on cost centre to supplier relationships greatly improves efficiency. No longer do we need someone to sight these invoices and manually complete the routing process.

The automated process allows a greater number of invoices to be traversed through in much less time.

Becoming more efficient through automation will lead to greater productivity, something every organisation strives to achieve.

Automation allows employees to put in less effort to get a job done. Less employees are required to complete the now automated business task, allowing for employees to be reassigned to more challenging and profit generating activities.

Automation helps businesses to stay competitive, save time, increase capacity, reduce costs and able to provide superior customer service.

To effectively compete and leap forward every business need to automate their processes. The more automated and systemised their processes are the more likely they will survive the long haul and ultimately thrive.
